Subcommittee on Community Rights & Protected Areas (SCRPAI)

The Sub-Committee on Community Rights and Protected Areas was formed to address issues related to community, land, and forest rights. It works closely with local stakeholders to safeguard customary governance and territorial autonomy. The committee takes up matters raised directly by the community—such as the illegal Tiger Reserve proposal in Dibang Valley, which it is currently leading with the support of 43 villages and Gram Sabhas who have collectively upheld their rights over ancestral lands and forests. Other issues, like the CAMPA-related concerns, are being handled by villagers themselves and remain ongoing. While the committee strives to protect Idu rights over land and forests, controlling the sale of land continues to be a significant challenge, with limited progress despite existing regulations.
